Driven by lifestyle the brief for the design was simple. “Build a low maintenance home with simple elegant form, which is energy efficient and sympathetic to the surrounding environment.”
Existing Tee Tree’s were able to be retained along the front boundary and with the addition of a minimalist post and rail fence, the natural flow of the streetscape has been retained enabling the home to site beautifully behind it’s gently filtering screen.
The design is driven by a single plane of roof, with light, wide eave elements. There is a raised twenty two degree element above the kitchen space with two highlight windows allowing north light to wash through the kitchen and into the passage behind. The highlight window also encourages a gentle cooling cross flow effect through the home. Internal ceilings lines flow at the same roof pitch giving a light and spacious feel to the home. Externally, the lightweight construction gives a soft beachside feel supported by the angular stone work to the facade.
Upon entering the home the feeling of space is evident. The spacious entry and hallway flow effortlessly into the main communal area which is flooded with north light. Light hard wearing porcelain floor tiles flow throughout the home and connect the covered alfresco area via large double sliding doors. Here, enjoy the rhythmical sound of the waves breaking while laying on the elevated day bed enveloped in the surrounding landscape.
The home has four double bedrooms all with built in robes, the main with ensuite and walk in robe. Storage is maximised, allowing a minimalist approach to the décor.
Luxuries are not forgotten with ensuite and bathroom floors thermostatically heated, remote controlled blinds even self closing toilet seats!
Completing the design is a double garage with through roller door access to a concrete area to accommodate the boat. This is complete with wash down facilities and external shower serviced via a water tank. The 13500 litre water tank also services the toilets, laundry, external taps and a 400m automated drip system through out the fully landscaped block.
Edgebuild has a clear focus on sustainability, achieving a six star energy rating for this design. The siting of the home and double glazed window positioning has taken full advantage of north light and naturally occurring wind currents to help thermally heat and cool the building.
